One more blast of self-promotion before I go back into my writing cave . . .

Kind words about One Nation, Under God from the Chicago Sun-Times, where Jeffrey Westhoff writes, "One Nation evokes such paranoid 1970s thrillers as The Parallax View and Six Days of the Condor." (Read the full review here.)

Chicagoans who missed the party at After-Words can catch me at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 17 at the Book Cellar (4736-38 N. Lincoln Ave.), where I'll be doing Local Author Night with Doug Cummings (Every Secret Crime) and the red-hot Michael Harvey (The Fifth Floor).

If you're not in Chicago, you can hear me read a couple of pages on the Time Out Chicago arts podcast, "Back of the Book," sometime this week. The pod has not yet been cast, but if you subscribe to it in iTunes, you'll know when it's out. Here's the first installment.

And, on Sunday, September 28, I'll be chatting with WGN's Rick Kogan on "Sunday Papers," from 8:30-9 a.m. (CST--or is it CDT?). If News/Talk 720's powerful signal doesn't reach you, click here for streaming audio.

If you're in Montana, or will be soon, I hope to see you October 23-25 at the Montana Festival of the Book. I can't wait!

Since you asked, the cave is quite comfortable, thanks to cross-ventilation and an appealing view of rain-soaked trees. But the maniacally laughing little people do make it hard to concentrate.

Very best,

Keir

P.S. It occurs to me that, for variety, it might be nice to say something about someone else's book, too--and the best book I've read lately is Nick Harkaway's The Gone-Away World. (Click here for raving.) As many of you know, I read books--well, I won't say "for a living"--but reading books is an essential component of my day job. If you ever want a recommendation, drop me a line, and I'll be happy to share my latest faves. And if you ever want to recommend a book to me, what's taking you so long?
